Each student in my class will be creating and publishing a class journal. The reasons I ask you to do these journals are:
I always thought twitter was pretty dumb - that I really didn't care what Ashton Kusher had for breakfast - but I've slowly come to realize that it is an awesome professional development tool that put me in contact with experts in the creative field all over the world. A wise man - Roger Martin put it this way, "All of us are smarter than one of us." You will need to create your own twitter account. If you already have an account you can use it - but it might be wise to create another for professional purposes. It's really about creating a brand for yourself that you can sell to colleges or a potential employer. To create a new account, just click on the twitter bird at the top of this post and you'll be linked to Twitter's home page. You'll have to verify your email address after creating a user name and password. Please use your real name when you're setting this up - we can always change it later. Today's project asks you to build a Netvibes page. Here is a sample of my public Netvibes page. My public page includes those things that I'm passionate about: Graphic Arts, Education, Career Planning and helping other teachers use technology. Netvibes takes the web and ties it together into themes. Basically, my Netvibes page is my start or home page on my computers.
Some of the content on my Netvibes page comes directly from Netvibes widgets. Other content is material that I Stumbled Upon or had shared with me by colleagues via Twitter. Your netvibes page should include a few class-related tabs - Graphic Arts, Communication, Photography and New Web Technologies. It should also include your other passions - animation, sports, movies, music - whatever your passionate about. Here is a tour of Netvibes. Follow the tour by clicking the next button. It will explain Netvibes pages in detail. You can add actual YouTube videos, web radio stations, picture slideshows- whatever. At the end of the tour you will be able to set up a free account and begin building your pages. You'll need to set up an account on Netvibes to be able to build your own personal and public pages. Make sure you use an accurate e-mail address when first signing up because you'll need to respond to a verification email in order for the site to work. if you're working on a senior project, your Netvibes page could be a great way to organize information and research on your presentation. Be creative - make me proud. |
