Project Work for Week 14:
Welcome back from the Thanksgiving break. I hope that you had a restful long weekend and you're ready to get back to work. December will mean be a movement into page layout skills and we will be working on getting prepared to begin putting pages together for this year's yearbook. We will start with a simple photoblock project. For this project, I am requiring that all images used be your own photography. You can use cell phone images if you'd like - just make sure the quality is good. Another project we work on at this time of year is our annual calendar creation. For those of you without income for presents, this is a great way to give a small gift of your creation to family members or friends. Make sure that you have a strong theme before starting this project - please try to work on this project a little bit every day - this isn't the type of project that can be completed in a day and it's somewhat complicated in scope. Lastly - we will be running our SkillsUSA in-house competition to determine which TCHS PIckering student designer will be representing us at the District SkillsUSA competition in February of 2016. The competition will be held on Friday in both the AM and PM classes. This will be a logo design with specs given to you that day. Competencies this week: 505 - Demonstrate basic use of a vector-based drawing program (e.g. Illustrator). 507 - Demonstrate basic use of image editing software (e.g. Photoshop). 607 - Demonstrate basic knowledge of printing processes. 801 - Operate digital camera and accessories. 804 - Demonstrate ability to physically stabilize camera. Project Work for Weeks 12 & 13: Photography & Photoshop: Clone Yourself Project - in this project we will be using Adobe Photoshop, a camera, and a tripod to create an interesting collage that will look like you have cloned yourself. Please work with a partner to capture the images and then we will be using Photoshop masks to blend the images together. This video will show you the basics: Illustrator: T-shirt Design Project - start to plan your 2-color design for your t-shirt this week. No copywritten art can be used for this - it must be your own design! Letter sized, portrait orientation works well for this design. This week we will be coating screens and start making film positives.
Analog Art: Corrugated Cardboard portrait or ruled paper illusion drawing - see images below: Competencies this week:
Work is going to continue on the two projects we began last week. Our analog project is a linoleum block print that we are creating using Photoshop, drawing skills and basic relief printing techniques. The work thus far looks good. Make sure that you review the video before you start carving the linoleum and you have a clear idea what colors you will be using in your prints. On the other front, we will continue to pick up Illustrator skills to incorporate into our accordion book. The designs that I've seen look strong but I'd like to see you use some of the strategies that are shown in the videos we've used so far. This week we will be concentrating on making patterns and repeating motifs in Adobe Illustrator. See the videos below for step-by-step directions. The first video introduces the pattern palette and demonstrates a great way to make a background for a page. The second uses the blend tool and offers some new ways to work with this tool that we have not done before. |
